Haydarpasa Railway Station is the most crowded station of the Asian part of Istanbul. It is a very important point of reference with visitors ranging from regular passengers to businessmen, tourists and people who come here from Anatolia. The first conceptual design idea was to improve a ring system between nostalgic tram and facilities with different functions around Haydarpasa. At the same time, the ring tram will help people to move from Kadikoy to the European part of Istanbul. The project area was divided into two parts. The first part mostly includes education areas while the second is an exhibition area. Squares, meeting points and stop points link these two parts and also the existing railway platform. A canopy, which is designed as a lightweight structure, connects the existing buildings with the education building. Haydarpasa station has lost its function these days. A Train History Museum and a public education centre will help this place to revive and survive. The large amount of technical spaces will be relocated out of Istanbul’s city centre. Thus visitors can use these spaces for cultural activities with the area being alive 24 hours. The museum building was designed on the same axes with the Haydarpasa Railway Station’s main building. An inner garden was surrounded by a canopy. Visitors and passengers can spend their time at this inner garden and at the same time visitors can join the events which are going on at the conference hall. This conference hall is also designed and located to face the existing and protected rails.
